Who I am
Sophie Douglass, ex-make up artist with a life-long passion for cosmetics and beauty products.
For most of my adult life I suffered from blotchy, itchy skin. I cursed my ‘sensitive’ skin and continued to spend more and more money on the latest ‘hypo-allergenic’ and ‘dermatologist tested’ products. After yet another allergic reaction that resulted in having to use a steroid cream I decided to investigate what my skin care and cosmetics contained. I was horrified to discover that for years I had unwittingly been buying expensive products that contained the same toxic ingredients used in brake fluid and anti-freeze liquid...no wonder my skin was a mess!
What I did
In 2002 I spent many months researching ingredients and seeking out ranges that claimed to be natural, only to discover upon reading the labels that they weren’t as ‘clean’ as the marketing and hype had led me to believe. I was so angry about this that it made me even more determined to track down truly pure, natural skin care. After a while I succeeded and within a short time of being chemical-free I was rewarded with clear, calm, healthy-looking skin.
Why I started Absolutely Pure
I was frustrated that I couldn't get all the products I wanted under one roof and one day I remarked to a friend that it would be great if there were a shop that stocked all the best chemical-free ranges where you didn't have to double-check the labels for nasties. Her reply was "Well, there isn't so why don't you create it?"
So in 2003 I did!
Please note: I do not always stock the complete range that a particular supplier offers, and because I feature a few carefully selected products it doesn't mean that everything they produce meets my strict criteria - only the products you see on this site are guaranteed to be free of nasties.
My mission
To stock only the purest natural beauty products.
To offer a personal and friendly service - if you need help or guidance with choosing products get in touch - I've tested 99% of them myself!
What I’d like you to do
- Not be fooled by marketing and hype; don’t think you can trust a company because ‘natural’, ‘botanical’ or ‘organic’ appears on the packaging or as part of the company name.
- Know that there is no legal definition of ‘natural’ so any company can claim this for its products.
- Always read the label.
- Remember I’ve done the research so you don’t have to!
