Sun Care

Our sunscreens do not contain any of the nasties found in mainstream brands:

Octyl-methoxycinnamate - widely used as a UV absorber.  May produce free radicals known to be toxic to cells.

Titanium dioxide - has the greatest covering and tinting power of any white pigment.  Can cause DNA damage due to superoxide radicals, active oxygen radicals and hydroxyl radicals when exposed to light.

Oxybenzone - derived from Isopropyl Alcohol, a petroleum based chemical.  It is rapidly oxidised in the presence of light and inactivates the skin's natural protection system.

PABA - found in vitamin B complex but is usually synthetically derived.  Can cause allergic sensitivity and eczema and may produce free radicals in the presence of light.

Cinoxate (Cinnamic acid) - may cause allergic skin rashes and DNA damage.

Padimate-O - may produce free radicals in presence of light and substantially increases indirect damage (strand breaks in DNA) when in contact with cells.

Dibenzoylmethane, Parsol 1789 and Methyl Sinapate  - can produce free radicals responsible for direct DNA damage.

Phenylbenzimidazole Sulfonic Acid and 2-Phenylbenzimadole - can act as photosensitisers of DNA damage when exposed to sunlight or UVB radiation.
